[SMM PV News] Tesla Targets 100 GW US Solar Manufacturing by 2028

Published: Mar 25, 2026 09:12
Tesla is advancing its goal to deploy 100 GW of US solar manufacturing capacity by 2028. Recent California job postings highlight a focus on developing equipment for 'massive scale' production. To support this, Tesla is negotiating a $2.9 billion procurement—including screen-printing lines—from Chinese suppliers like Suzhou Maxwell, Shenzhen S.C, and Laplace. Deliveries to Texas are expected this autumn, pending export approvals. This scale-up, teased by Elon Musk at the World Economic Forum, follows the market launch of Tesla's US-assembled solar panels from its New York Gigafactory, which is scaling to an initial capacity of over 300 MW per year.
