Wafer Quality and Price Guarantee Becomes a Key Focus Across the Industry

Published: Jun 9, 2026 16:29

According to the survey, three top-tier wafer enterprises are jointly holding prices firm. SMM’s specific quotations are as follows:

183mm: 0.88-0.9 yuan/piece

210R: 0.98-1.0 yuan/piece

210N: 1.18-1.2 yuan/piece

As of now, the lowest prices implemented by the three enterprises are within the quotation range. SMM analysis indicates that although current wafer selling prices are above cash costs, they will later face pressure from both polysilicon and cell ends, and whether wafers can maintain current prices depends on the determination of top-tier players. Quality and price assurance is becoming a key focus across the entire industry. It is worth noting that using low-quality, low-priced wafers will not only visibly cause module power output to fall below expectations, but more importantly, it will lead to hidden risks such as first-year light-induced degradation (LID) and accelerated aging.

India's Reliance Industries has officially put its HJT modules into production, with the first batch of 200 MW delivered. The module power reaches 720 W and has obtained India's BIS certification. Energy conversion efficiency has increased by 10%, while the degradation rate has decreased by 25%. Reliance Industries plans to subsequently expand production to 10 GW/year, marking the entry of its advanced PV manufacturing capabilities into a phase of substantial implementation.

Toyo Solar announced the construction of a 1.5GW HJT cell production line in Texas, US. The project is located in the Houston metropolitan area and plans to achieve integration with an existing module plant, with an investment of approximately $357 million and an expected construction period of 20 months. Upon completion, it will be eligible for the US IRA Act Section 45X Advanced Manufacturing Tax Credit (approximately $0.04/W), further boosting local PV manufacturing capacity.

Another report in People’s Daily today focused on the response strategies of Zhejiang’s PV industry. Zhejiang’s PV industry ranks among the top nationwide in scale and grid-connected installations, and its enterprises are accelerating the transformation from “product going global” to “brand going global” and “capacity going global.” Chint New Energy stated that it secured a large PV+ESS project in Turkey in March this year, with all modules supplied by its local factory in Turkey, and provided a full-chain one-stop solution covering modules, ESS, and construction. AIKO believes that the cancellation of export tax rebates marks the PV industry’s entry into the era of “value going global,” and the key lies in accelerating the exit of outdated capacity. The cancellation of export tax rebates will prompt PV enterprises to gradually shift from low-price competition to technological upgrading, continuously driving their products toward high quality and high efficiency.
