Anode Export Growth Expected Despite Temporary Pullback in May, Driven by New Capacities in SE Asia and Europe

Published: Jun 26, 2026 18:39
[SMM Aluminum Bulletin] Looking ahead, the continued release of new aluminum capacity in Southeast Asia and Northern Europe is expected to be the primary driver boosting anode export growth. May exports experienced a temporary pullback due to shifts in Southeast Asian procurement pace and declining demand from the Middle East, but the offsetting effect of new Southeast Asian capacity should not be overlooked. The probability of a near-term recovery in markets like the Middle East and Russia remains low, and exports are likely to fluctuate at lows. Overall, cumulative exports for the full year are still expected to maintain slight positive growth.

Coal Tar Pitch Market Sees Stagnant Prices, Supply Increase Amid Downstream Hesitation
[SMM Aluminum Brief] In the coal tar pitch market, coal tar raw material prices were stagnant. Deep-processing operating rates rose slightly, leading to a modest increase in supply. Downstream anode enterprises purchased on a just-in-time basis and pushed for lower prices while adopting a wait-and-see stance, intensifying the supply-demand tug-of-war. Next week, the market is expected to continue its weak consolidation: raw material prices will see no significant fluctuations, downstream players are unlikely to restock in a concentrated manner, and prices lack upward momentum, with a high probability of a slight decline.
