[SMM Iron & Steel] South Korea Imposes Provisional AD Duties of Up to 33.67% on Chinese Coated Steel Imports

Published: Jun 22, 2026 11:04
South Korea's Ministry of Strategy and Finance has imposed provisional antidumping (AD) duties ranging from 22.34% to 33.67% on imports of certain Chinese coated steel products with a thickness below 4.75 mm, effective from June 12, 2026, until October 11, 2026. The duties target galvanized, zinc-aluminum, or zinc-aluminum-manganese alloy-coated cold-rolled sheets and coils. Under the company-specific rates, Baogang Steel Union received the lowest duty of 22.34%, Shougang Jingtang was assigned 26.28%, Hong Kong-based Wing Tung Holdings received the highest at 33.67%, and other Chinese producers are subject to 25.75%. This trade defense measure highlights South Korea's aggressive steps to protect its domestic flat steel producers from material injury caused by dumped imports, a move that is likely to sharply reduce the market share of Chinese coated steel in the region and provide a pricing floor for local mills, before potentially being extended into definitive five-year duties.

[India] India Hindupur Billet Prices Rise, But Buying Remains Cautious
India’s Hindupur billet price rose by around 3 USD/tonne to about 473 USD/tonne DAP. Despite firmer seller offers, weak finished steel demand continued to limit buyer acceptance of higher prices. Trading remained mainly need-based, with near-term support depending on finished steel destocking and recovery in end-user demand.

【SMM Steel】BCC warns new steel import quotas threaten UK SMEs
【SMM Steel】The British Chamber of Commerce has warned that new steel import quotas effective July 1 will severely impact SMEs in steel-consuming sectors. The UK's annual steel demand is ~10.3m tonnes, while domestic production covers only ~2.6m tonnes. William Bain, BCC Head of Trade Policy, said companies face millions in losses once quotas are exhausted, with some considering relocation to the EU. The BCC urges the government to scale back quota cuts, phase in the 50% tariff, and extend transitional arrangements.
