[SMM PV] Ningbo "Refines" Itself into the Nation's "First City" of Distributed PV

Published: Jun 17, 2026 14:20

The latest statistics from the Ningbo Energy Administration show that as of the end of May this year, the installed capacity of distributed PV in Ningbo reached 9.74 million kW, ranking first among all prefecture-level cities in China, and Ningbo’s PV power generation accounted for 10.24% of the total electricity consumption of the whole society. “That means, for every 10 kilowatt-hours of electricity used in production and daily life in Ningbo, one comes from the sun,” said a relevant official from the Ningbo Energy Administration.

To accelerate the adjustment of the energy mix, Ningbo began implementing “PV+” projects in ten major areas, including water surfaces, mudflats, agriculture, industry, and commerce, five years ago. Subsequently, relevant policies and measures were introduced to promote the integrated development of distributed PV with industry, transportation, new infrastructure, and rural revitalization. “Ningbo is advancing the development of distributed PV across the entire city to accelerate emission reductions and carbon reduction in this industrial city,” the official said, adding that industrial rooftops account for as much as 84% of the installed capacity, followed closely by residential rooftops at about 8.6%.

Denmark-based European Energy has inaugurated the 148MW Tārgale Solar Park in Latvia. Located in Ventspils Municipality, the EUR 80 million project is expected to generate around 154,550MWh of electricity annually, enough to supply about 60,000 households. The project is supported by a 110MW corporate PPA with Apple, which European Energy says is among the largest single-plant corporate PPAs in the Baltic region. The project was developed with local stakeholders and is co-owned by European Energy and Danish pension fund Sampension.

Fotowatio Renewable Ventures, part of Jameel Energy, has secured 2.3GW of transmission grid capacity in Germany to support battery storage, solar PV and hybrid renewable projects. FRV said grid access has become a decisive factor for large-scale renewable and storage projects in Germany. The secured portfolio is expected to reach ready-to-build status between 2026 and 2029 across regions including Brandenburg, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia, covering 2-hour and 4-hour BESS projects, solar PV plants and hybrid projects.
