[ArcelorMittal Pecém approves first phase of hot-rolled coil project in Brazil]

ArcelorMittal's Pecém facility in Ceará has approved the first phase of a strategic project for a new hot-rolled coil production line. This phase involves a BRL 35 million ($6.8 million) investment in engineering and development, excluding construction or equipment procurement. Physical construction depends on study outcomes and subsequent board approval. The full project, estimated at BRL 4.5 billion ($872 million), could create 3,000 construction jobs. Currently producing 3 million t/y of slabs, the plant aims to add HRC to its output to increase product value.

HRC Total Inventory WoW Destocking, Expected WoW Increase Next Week

This week, the HRC social inventory at 86 warehouses nationwide (large sample) tracked by SMM stood at 4.3425 million mt, down 33,200 mt WoW, or down 0.76% WoW, and up 45.74% YoY on a lunar calendar basis. By region, the northeast China market saw a relatively large destocking, the central China market experienced a slight accumulation, and the south China, east China, and north China markets underwent narrow destocking.
