Building Materials Social Inventory: According to SMM survey, the total social inventory of building materials turned from increase to decrease this period. As of June 18, 2026, SMM building materials social inventory stood at 5.2493 million mt, down 79,300 mt WoW, a decline of 1.49%. This was mainly due to reduced arrivals in most regions during the survey period, driving slight destocking of social inventory.
Regional Social Inventory: By region, inventory performance varied slightly this period. Among them, inventory decreases were concentrated in east China, mainly due to increased outbound shipments of steel mill resources, which reduced arrivals in local markets and caused rapid destocking; in south China, continuous rainfall weakened market demand, with poor shipments leading to continued inventory buildup; in northern regions, most areas saw increased resource arrivals and still built up inventory, while only in Beijing, a higher proportion of direct supply from steel mills led to fewer arrivals in social inventory, causing a slight destocking, but the pace of destocking slowed down compared to the previous period.

Additionally, billet export prices from some neighboring countries were lower than those in China, so overseas buyers remained cautious in the short term, which would limit export transactions. [Rebar] Rebar export FOB offers edged down by 2USD/tonne today, tracking futures. According to traders, market sentiment was subdued and inquiries were mediocre. Offers for southern China resources were maintained at 520-525USD/tonne, which were relatively high.
