[SMM Analysis] Rio Tinto is focusing on achieving the target of reaching an annual output of 200,000 mt LCE by 2028.
This month, Rio Tinto stated during its earnings conference call that, with all its proprietary projects progressing as planned, the company's lithium capacity is expected to reach 200,000 mt LCE per year by 2028. The increase will primarily come from the expansion of the Fenix project and Sal de Vida, as well as the commissioning of new projects at Rincon and Nemaska. By then, total output will exceed more than three times the 57,000 mt of lithium carbonate produced in 2025.
