Small and medium-sized enterprises generally resumed operations after the Lantern Festival (March 2), with an average holiday duration of around 21 days.
SMM February 27:
According to SMM research, most galvanising enterprises resumed production between the tenth day (February 26) and the sixteenth day (March 4) of the first lunar month. Small and medium-sized enterprises generally resumed operations after the Lantern Festival (March 2), with an average holiday duration of around 21 days, up by one day YoY. In terms of post-holiday sales, ferrous metals prices remained weak, and sales in Hebei and Tianjin showed no significant improvement yet. By enterprise type, galvanized pipe producers maintained relatively high operating rates after resuming production, with large plants expected to reach full capacity next week. Due to early holidays taken by downstream users before the Spring Festival, some enterprises focused on clearing pre-holiday orders, leading to a slight decline in finished product inventories. Galvanized structural parts producers resumed operations later than galvanized pipe producers, constrained partly by the processing trade with supplied materials and partly by the fact that end-user projects only restart after the Lantern Festival. Processing-oriented enterprises remained in a waiting period, while the few that had resumed operations mainly conducted maintenance or limited production. SMM will continue to monitor the downstream production resumptions.

As of February 27, the SMM Zn50 domestic weekly TC average price rose by 50 yuan/mt in metal content from the pre-holiday level to 1,550 yuan/mt in metal content. According to SMM, as the Chinese New Year holiday ended, domestic mines gradually resumed production. Meanwhile, imported zinc concentrates previously ordered by smelters continued to arrive, leaving domestic smelters' raw material inventory relatively ample. Consequently, processing fees in some domestic regions increased for March.
