[Operating Rates Continued to Rise This Week, but Order Demand Had Not Fully Started] The rise in operating rates this week was mainly driven by enterprises gradually resuming operations and production. On the order side, orders at top-tier enterprises generally remained stable, but overall industry demand had not yet fully recovered. Affected by the relatively late Chinese New Year break, current end-use demand in rubber, desulfurization, and other sectors still had not fully started, while performance in the ceramics sector was also relatively weak, and it would still take time for demand to see a substantive improvement......

       This week, the operating rate of zinc oxide was 52.73%, up 8.51 percentage points MoM. Inventory side, some enterprises had yet to resume operations this week, and finished product inventories in plants were nearly depleted; coupled with the gradual resumption of production at downstream end-use factories, enterprises accelerated their shipment pace, driving finished product inventories lower, while raw material inventory was basically flat from last week. On orders, top-tier enterprises generally maintained stable orders, but overall industry demand had yet to fully recover. Affected by the relatively late Chinese New Year break, current end-use demand from rubber, desulfurization, and other sectors had yet to fully start, while the ceramics segment also remained weak, and any substantive demand improvement still needed time. This week’s rise in the operating rate was mainly driven by enterprises gradually starting operations and resuming production. Looking at next week, as some enterprises are expected to resume production at the end of this week, the operating rate is expected to continue rising and fluctuate around 55.67%.

In early trading, SHFE zinc briefly rose to a high of 23,970 yuan/mt, then bulls reduced open interest, dragging the price center lower and leaving it in the doldrums. It touched a low of 23,820 yuan/mt during the session and finally closed down at 23,880 yuan/mt, down 25 yuan/mt, or 0.1. Trading volume fell to 29,661 lots, while open interest decreased by 531 lots to 76,786 lots.

[SMM Morning Meeting Summary: Geopolitical Turmoil Resurfaced, LME Zinc Came Under Pressure] Overnight, LME zinc opened at $3,297.5/mt. In early trading, bears increased open interest, dragging the center of LME zinc lower as it fluctuated downward throughout the session, and it hit an intraday low of $3,255/mt during European trading hours. The center then rebounded. Trading was suspended for about three hours due to technical issues during the period. After reopening, LME zinc touched a high of $3,306.5/mt, before the center moved lower again, and it finally closed down at $3,279/mt, down $14.5/mt, a decline of 0.44%. Trading volume increased to 7,502 lots, and open interest rose by 2,947 lots to 218,000 lots.
