SHANGHAI, Feb 2 (SMM) — It was reported that Myanmar President Win Myint, State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and some senior NLD officials were detained by the military in the early morning of February 1, local time. Currently, many cities in Myanmar are experiencing widespread communication interruptions. The Myanmar military issued a statement on February 1, saying that in accordance with the provisions of the constitution, a one-year state of emergency will be declared. It was reported that Myanmar President Win Myint, State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and some senior NLD officials were detained by the military in the early morning of February 1, local time.

SMM learned that the Dagonshan Project of CNICO Nickel Industry Co., Ltd. (CNICO) is currently in normal production. Mount Dagon is located at the junction of Mandalay and Sagaing Province in northern Myanmar. It integrates nickel mining and ferronickel smelting, with an annual output of 85,000 mt of ferronickel (water quenched nickel) with a nickel grade of about 34%.

In terms of tin mines, there is currently no impact. It is reported that the Wa Special Region 2 of Myanmar is one of the main sources of tin ore in China. China imported 116,000 mt of tin ore from Myanmar from January to October 2020. Recently, according to an SMM survey, Bangkang announced that all Bangkang urban areas will be unblocked from February 1 due to the effective control of the outbreak in the Wa Special Region 2 of Myanmar. After the Meng'a port has resumed tin mine clearance and transportation on January 19, the current transportation situation remained stable. It will be allowed to continue to export tin ore at the end of last week, and the pre-holiday transportation may continue until around February 8.

SMM will continue to track the follow-up impact.
