CATL will further strengthen its cooperation with Mercedes-Benz in the field of battery technology to support the large-scale electrification of Mercedes-Benz models.

SHANGHAI, Aug 6 (SMM) — CATL will further strengthen its cooperation with Mercedes-Benz in the field of battery technology to support the large-scale electrification of Mercedes-Benz models.
The Chinese battery manufacturer and the German automaker announced that they have entered “the next stage of their strategic partnership and will create cutting-edge battery technology in support of the high-volume electrification of the Mercedes-Benz model portfolio.”
It was reported that this strategic agreement covered power battery technology in various fields including cells and modules for Mercedes-Benz car products, and overall battery packs for light commercial vehicle products, which would possess a promising innovative technology configuration, such as the cell-to-pack (CTP) battery platform. CTP is a new highly integrated power battery platform launched in September 2019. This innovative technology can make the energy density of the battery pack reach more than 200Wh/kg under the same cell condition, which is much higher than the energy density of the traditional battery pack below 160Wh/kg.
Mercedes-Benz will also advance the development of first-class lithium battery technology. Research and development of the next-generation battery is in progress, and the results would be applied to the new models launched by Mercedes-Benz in the next few years. The clear research and development goals included shortening the research and development cycle, greatly increasing the battery's cruising range by improving the energy density, and reducing the charging time.
The partnership between CATL and Mercedes-Benz will not be limited to the Chinese market. Mercedes-Benz officially revealed that its strategic cooperation with CATL will further accelerate the industrialisation of high-tech battery technology in Germany.
